Furniture Making I

In October 2015, I started a fifteen week short course in furniture making at Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design in London. Having spent the previous couple of years focussed on research and writing I felt the urge to return to making something with my hands. The course was taught by expert furniture and cabinet maker Helen Welch and I learned how to use and maintain a broad range of hand tools, how to make several joints and how to prepare and finish surfaces. I finished the course in February 2016, having completed a small, wall-hanging cabinet with a door.
